SmartSourcing is a responsible business committed to minimising environmental impact while creating positive value for society and the communities we serve.

Sustainability Summary

SmartSourcing is committed to reducing our greenhouse gas emissions and demonstrating credible, evidence-based sustainability performance. Working with our sustainability and impact partner, Positive Planet, we have implemented a structured and measurable net zero programme with clear targets, actions, and governance.

We have quantified our operational emissions and developed an achievable carbon reduction plan that will support our transition to net zero by 2035. This plan is actively managed, with progress tracked against defined milestones and reviewed at board level.

SmartSourcing has achieved the Silver Accreditation from Positive Planet. This recognition reflects our sustained efforts to integrate responsible environmental practices across our operations, as well as our commitment to continuous improvement in sustainability performance.

Our Carbon Dashboard, including emissions data and reduction progress, is available to view here. The dashboard is reviewed bi-annually with oversight and approval from both the board and senior management.

To meet the needs of our public sector customers, we have also adopted a fully compliant Carbon Reduction Plan in line with PPN 006 requirements for government contracts. This plan will be reviewed and updated annually to ensure continued alignment with evolving expectations and regulatory standards.

Voluntary Offsetting

We have decided to engage in voluntary carbon offsetting to further mitigate our impact on the environment while we are proactively working towards reduced emissions and a 2035 net zero target.

This year we have chosen to support a VCS verified REDD+ project, based in the DRC, that is tackling deforestation in an ecologically rich part of the world. This project supports and protects habitats for many species, along with some of the world’s most important wetlands.

The project is community-led, which means that not only are we protecting biodiversity but also providing jobs, training and support to the local community.

Due to the project’s wide-reaching impact it also aligns with United Nations Development Goals 1 – 17.

Climate Ambassador

To support our sustainability ambitions, we have appointed a SmartSourcing Climate Ambassador to lead our environmental agenda. This role is responsible for championing best practice, strengthening internal engagement, and ensuring we take every opportunity to minimise our impact on the environment and climate change. We are committed to supporting our employees, contractors, specialist partners, and customers to translate awareness into meaningful action and contribute to positive, measurable environmental outcomes.
